Capture Docker logs

The capture-docker-logs action writes the logs of every Docker container on the runner, running or stopped, to <dest>/<container name>.log. It is meant for end-to-end test jobs that start a Docker stack and upload its logs when tests fail.

Usage

Set the step’s if: to match when you want the logs, and upload the directory afterwards:

- name: Capture server logs if: always() uses: openmrs/openmrs-contrib-gha-workflows/.github/actions/capture-docker-logs@main with: dest: logs - name: Upload logs as artifact if: always() uses: actions/upload-artifact@043fb46d1a93c77aae656e7c1c64a875d1fc6a0a # v7.0.1 with: name: server-logs path: logs

What it does

  1. Creates dest if it does not exist.
  2. Lists every container, running or stopped, and writes each one’s logs to <dest>/<container name>.log.

If one container’s logs cannot be read, the action skips it with a warning. It fails only if it cannot list the containers.

Inputs

NameTypeDefaultDescription
deststringlogsDirectory to write the log files to. Created if it does not exist.
